Another Birthday

When I met Nixon, April 10th of 2007 I was there to celebrate his birthday. Then we were married and we had a little surprise birthday at HCH. Larry was a big part of making that happen. This year I thought I would make him a special birthday guy day. I made his cake a day early and then got busy around 10 am on the day of his birthday. Nine hours later, I had a houseful of 20 boys and guys, around 17 full size pizzas, chips, sodas, a Mr. Bean movie(thanks Leann). As I put the last two pizzas on the table, I went to spend a little time with Leann. Way too much tostesterone in my own house. The house was alive, filled with laughter, and the love of my life was having a great time. I am very satisfied. I pray the Lord blesses my husband with a heart completely devoted to his God. I pray He grows in maturity and remains a good man. He is a wonderful husband. I love him so very much. I can't imagine my life without him.

People Watching

Little did I know that I like to people watch. LOL! The Mangine Team enlightened me with this. But I think most of us here in Haiti are people watchers. As I was helping Lucette clean up the second floor today I saw a woman run after another woman with a rock in her hand. She flung it at her and proceeded to scream her head off. Of course it only took a few moments for local Haitians to flock around, watching and listening. I watched as they mocked the angry lady and as other Haitians hung over their balconies, watching so closely that they looked as if they were about to fall below. Funny. Later I heard our neighbor's dog yelping in pain. I often hear the dog yelp but don't think much of it. This time I saw the young boy dragging the dog by one hind leg as he swatted the dog with his other hand. The dog yelped in pain. The boy's sister and older "caretaker" laughed as they watched. I became angrier as the boy held the poor dog's hind leg all around the yard. He would kick him, and the younger sister would kick the dog as well. As the group reached the back of the yard, the seemingly 2 year old boy picked up a little branch and leaned into the dog as well. I have one word, "IGNORANCE". How do you fight against something like that? I haven't much of an idea. I at least have to talk to the kids. I might try having a casual conversation with them tomorrow. It pains me to see animals treated like this.

Tonight I am enjoying the cool night air out here on the balcony. My husband has been talking for hours and I am anxious to spend time with him. I watch as couples flirt on the street below. Mother and daughter walk hand in hand, men buy bread, a group of lockarmed giggling girls walk down the street, and Eli Rah comes back to the house from I dont know where:? Also, out of 10 motorcycles, only one put on his blinker to turn at the end of our street. 3 out of the 10 didn't even have brake lights. Funny,....and dangerous. Some of you wanted to know what we do when we don't have teams? Nixon deals with the unexpected and I often sit, serve, and just wait as patiently as I can. It is always hard when a team leaves though. It kind of feels like they take a piece of us with them. That is how Nixon puts it. :) God bless you all!
